During a GDC 2021 talk, Genshin Impact developer Hoyoverse (previously Mihoyo) outright buy Diablo 4 Gold admitted that the way it created characters was to generate the most money possible from its viewers. The Raiden Shogun and Kokomi characters that were reruns in March 2022 alone netted the company more than $33 million in revenue.

The moment was immortalized by humorous memes and mockery, the majority of which stemmed from low expectations from the crowd: Fans attending BlizzCon 2018 had been hoping for "Diablo 4" announcements. It also stemmed from a lingering stigma around game consoles in the West which is where the adoption of smartphones as a gaming platform has been slower than the majority around the globe.

Since since then, "Diablo Immortal" has increased its popularity, since testing in beta and alpha stages proved that the game is a full-throated, classic Diablo experience. (It helped that Blizzard has decided to bring its game onto PC.)

The Diablo series is among the most influential games in contemporary game design, popularizing gameplay loops that focus on the acquisition of random "loot" to help your role-playing characters become more powerful. "Diablo 2" it was recently remastered, firmly established the gameplay loop, whereas "Diablo 3," which Cheng also worked on, refined and improved it.

Although the year 2018 was hard for Cheng and the team, he added that it strengthened their determination to Diablo IV Gold make "Immortal" an excellent game of the Diablo series, and its free-to-play launch on mobile brings the franchise to its biggest ever potential fan base. The game releases June 2.
