Body type, it turns out, is intentionally tied to class roles as part of the game's fantasy"as per Rod Fergusson Diablo IV Gold, executive producer and head of the Diablo franchise at Blizzard Entertainment.
"Body type is something that we think of as part of the class's fantasies," Fergusson said in an interview on a roundtable. He said that the developer invented the characters of a "'dad bod' Druid and an emaciated Necromancer" on purpose. "Those are just a few of the things that makes the classin certain aspects, so having a dad bod Necro or an obese Druid didn't really play into the class fantasy.
"We wanted to offer as wide a range of choices as is possible in terms of there [beingmany different ethnicities and hair and the eye color and markings However, there were certain factors that made the class one of the classes. For instance, in Diablo 4 it was body type."Body type and class archetypes are also part of Diablo 4's armor and gear design and the rest of the accessories that are part of the overall design of a class, Fergusson said. In other words, making armor that is suitable for the size of a barbarian body would be difficult to scale down to the 90-pound equivalent of the identical class. "The main idea was to provide the highest level of choice you'd ever have in a Diablo game," Fergusson said. "We wanted to make it more about personalization [andpersonalization], but your barbarian remains barbarian. It's going to be muscular but not a waif."
Diablo 4 further expands the number of character customization options by presenting its campfire of adventurers sporting random characters when players launch the game. There's no indication in the game itself that the Barbarian is actually a blonde dude who hails from Mount Arreat buy Diablo 4 Gold, or that any other classes should be limited to ethnic or gender roles automatically.
