More about Sega's next generation of PSO2 Meseta was revealed at the Tokyo Game Show, and New Genesis is shaping up to be a Substantial upgrade from the current game. There are still lots of details to be revealed as time goes one, but some significant things like combat and the world are much clearer. Hiro Arai out of Sega was live for nearly an hour to show off footage of gameplay and talk about what new things are on the road. Not much was mentioned about the present game and the upgrade coming alongside NG's release other than the graphic update, which is looking fantastic.
Maps are no more divided up into areas with loading screens. NG is going to have an entirely open world in the home base to the area. The TGS footage showed off a gorgeous new world that's a substantial update from the current game. Blades of grass blow in the wind, lush forests lie on the opposite side of valleys and frosty mountains could be viewed in the distance. Arai cites that different areas can be reached easily by simply exposing the entire world.
It seems like this is the planet Naberious in the current match, with woods being next to tundra and other regions. Areas are still technically divided up, but there's no loading between them. While it hasn't been straight said, an open world such as this suggests there might not be single celebration areas . Most shown in the footage were multi-party areas where there were other gamers. The cover for multi-party areas continues to be lowered to eight from twelve in the present PSO2, but that you see will differ from area to area.
Weather is making a much better comeback as it affects dynamically and can impact the battlefield, although the size of the effect wasn't spoken of. Time will also change, and footage showed several nice touches like fireflies in the forests at night. There is no word on fast travel, mounts or vehicles nevertheless, but Sega has implemented some new methods for players to move fast across this new world. Players will be able to run faster following a dodge both in and out of battle. A blue series follows underfoot, so you'll know you're doing it right when you see it.
The other significant addition to motion shown off at the first NG trailer is the slide. It goes as far as a few of the screenshots have left it seem. Players can get to high ground and jump off to glide and get pretty damn far through the map. Like in Breath of the Wild, you'll be able to make you're way up a mountain to glide away from -- but without anything inhibiting you like stamina. It'll also make for some dramatic entrances in to battle. Sega mentioned that gathering and crafting could be getting an overhaul, and while we didn't get a peek at crafting, we did see how much nicer it is to buy Phantasy Star Online 2 Meseta snag items in the specialty.
