SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS FOR ESCAPE FROM TARKOV, 2021

In this article, we will talk about the REAL system requirements for the game Escape from Tarkov in 2021. People often ask if the game will run on their hardware, PC or laptop, and whether it will be comfortable to play.

Let's first look at the official requirements from the developers for a start and for future comparison:

Minimum:

  • 2-core processor with a clock speed of 2.4 GHz (if it is Intel) and 2.6 GHz (if it is AMD).
  • 8 GB of RAM.
  • DirectX 11 compatible video card with 1 GB of video memory onboard.

But the minimum system requirements only guarantee that the game will run. But the fact that it will be comfortable to play is not guaranteed.

Recommended:

  • Quad-core processor with a clock speed of 3.2 GHz (from Intel) and from 3.6 GHz (from AMD).
  • RAM already requires 12 GB.
  • Also compatible with DirectX 11 graphics card, but with 2 GB of video memory onboard.

But the official system requirements are official, so as to be a rough guideline on whether you will run the game.

In reality, there are nuances. For example, the fact that Tarkov has different cards. For example, there is a Zavod card, which is quite small and closed, requires very little RAM and video memory, and even on a weak PC, in principle, it will be comfortable to play. And there are such cards as Reserve, which are huge in their territory, diverse, and therefore more demanding on the hardware. So the system requirements are not one size fits all.

And so, a few key points that will give you the opportunity to play Escape from Tarkov comfortably:

CPU

For Tarkov, a 2x or 4x processor with a high base clock frequency is preferable. Although this is not so critical. Personally, I have a 12x core with a low base frequency of 2.1GHz. Although I personally see myself running into the processor, this does not prevent me from playing at 60 FPS.

Let's move on to much more significant technical aspects of the hardware.

Experiment on measuring RAM and video memory

Requirements for RAM and video memory are much more critical. And then I carried out several measurements and experiments.

For the test, I made several measurements on the largest card in the game (Reserve) and looked at what values of RAM and video memory the game consumes.

In the course of measurements, it turned out that the game outside the raid consumes about 2.2 GB of RAM, and already when entering the raid, the values change significantly, depending on the settings. Next in the list is the data that the test produced on different graphical settings:

  • Low: 5.9 GB RAM / 3.4 GB video.
  • Medium: 6.6 GB RAM / 4.3 GB video
  • High: 7.9 GB RAM / 6.0 GB video (maybe the value would have been higher, but I have a card with 6 GB).
  • High + streaming: 6.2 GB RAM / 4.4 video. This means that during the game, your textures will be loaded in high quality, but not entirely, but as needed from video and RAM.

And so the measurements were made. And how will they help us in practice? We measured how much the game consumes on the largest map. I also measured how much RAM is required for the system immediately after turning it on. And here's what I got:

At the minimum graphics settings, I got the following values: 5.9 GB of RAM was used for the game, but we remember that another 3.7 GB was taken for the system. We get 9.6 GB of RAM for a comfortable game. Also, at the minimum graphics level, we needed 3.4 GB of video memory.

From here we draw conclusions: for a comfortable and stable FPS, the minimum requirements are 10 GB of RAM and 3 GB of video memory. But this is for the biggest and most demanding map in the game. For others, these readings will be lower.

Follow the same scheme to keep calculations for all graphic settings:

Real recommended system requirements

Either way, 8 GB of RAM is usually enough. True, it will take you a little longer to load into the raid than other players. That extra 2-3 minute gives your competitors a good edge. Also, the SSD significantly affects the download speed. Recommended for purchase first.

Thus, it is ideal to have a game on an SSD drive, 16 GB of RAM. And a video card of the level of 1060 or 1660 may well provide you with a picture at 60 frames per second.
