Runewords are very important in Diablo 2 Resurrected. We can use runewords to bring additional effects to our d2r ladder items. So when we enter this game, we need to know something about runewords.
Diablo 2 runes: How they work
Runes act like gems, allowing you to insert them into inserted gear to get their bonuses - depending on whether it's in a weapon or armor. They're not bad in a pinch, though usually worse than a gem on a socket. Also similar to gems, runes can be grouped to upgrade to increasingly rare runes in your Horadric block. There are also Horadric Cube recipes that use runes to repair equipment, reroll and upgrade weapons, and even open an item.
But runes come into play when they're used to create powerful rune words, because of their well-defined rarity, and they're also a common currency for transactions with other players.

The best Diablo 2 rune-farming spots
While they can drop anywhere you open containers or kill monsters, there are some hot spots.
The first is to enter the Black Swamp in Act 1 and search for the tower. While all towers are good, the real winner is the Forgotten Tower, on Nightmare or Hell difficulty. Here, you can take down the 5th level boss - the Countess - for a chance to get 6 runes at once.
Two other great places are Act 4 Hellforge, where you defeat Hephasto and break Mephisto's Soul Stone. You'll get a ton of runes, and the quest rescue in Act 5 at Mount Arreat, where you'll free the barbarians in exchange for 3 runes.
What Diablo 2 runewords are, and how to make them
When you place the runes in the correct nested item in the correct combination and order, the item will gain substantial bonuses on top of its base stats. These runes are the most powerful gear in the game, surpassing even unique and rare items. It's important to note that runes can only be used on common (white) items, so it's important to use rare runes on high-level common items rather than low-level ones.
While each runeword will always provide the same reward, some of their rewards are in a variable range and are random at creation time. For example, while the "Call to Arms" runeword will always give Battle Command a bonus, it can be as low as 2 or as high as 6. However, you can always rely on its static 40% increased attack speed bonus.
