I'm in agreement with that. I had such a blast playing the OSRS gold game in the beginning I didn't have any guide, and just I was totally immersed. Which is totally possible to try and enjoy plenty of fun playing the lower levels and in the beginning quests.
Then the game requires players to hone their skills while sitting in one spot for hours. And the community has become accustomed to and even praises the game. Certain people really enjoy the "AFK" part of watching television when playing games playing with their eyes shut. Personally, I hate playing this way.
As you do, it totally hinders my involvement in the game as well as the fact that I'm trying to play the role of a "role-playing games". It's true that I thought RS was supposed to be an MMORPG. It's actually not.
Let me be clear even though I was a bit sour about it and it ruined my enjoyment, I threw that out. I accepted the fact that you're required to learn AFK skills in order to obtain all the necessary requirements to complete all of the quests. I did this because I am a huge fan of the quests in this game, however, it was a huge amount of hours. STUPID. I can't believe people level up skills to 99. I'm at 70 base and only have maxed 99s in all combat skills and farming. Farming is the sole fun skill that you can play. All other skills are terrible.
But the quests, simply amazing. The most challenging quests in the game, Song of the Elves, basically requires base 70s. A lot of work and dedication. I'd like to at the very least, try to acquire the abilities to take on Sins of the Father. One of my favorite quests in the game and the requirements aren't as high. 50 slayers, 56 craftings 60 fletchings, 62 woodcutting are among the most demanding demands for this one.
I hear you on the Slayer. I'm unable to stand slayers. I don't know why PEOPLE enjoy it. It's just too boring. I am an slayer of level 70 with high combat skill. I had 99 attacks, strength, defense, and hitpoints for killing ammonite crabs 100% AFK when I worked my job.
I'll be honest, it was worth it. I absolutely love the bossing in this game. If you've never tried the fight caves to get the fire cape, you need to try it prior to deciding whether you'd like to end the game. There's some really fun mid-level bossing similar to gauntlet. It also requires songs of the elves to be completed, which is the base 70s. The most incredible bossing can be found in raids (chamber of xeric) and inferno but these are so late game that you need the highest combat statistics. You can get away with abstaining from most "skilling" techniques when you boss your way to earning money and other things you require.
Anyways. It's a shame that it's hard to play OSRS with any level of immersion because of the grindiness of the skills. It seems like at the time that OSRS was designed it was not expected by the developers anyone to ACTUALLY go for impressive stats or achieve a 99 in a skill. The game hasn't been changed or improved since.
I'm convinced that OSRS needs the introduction of an "easy" or "beginner" mode with a separate server separate from its main games. This is where skilling happens at 100x the current rate and buy RS gold is really enjoyable to play and get absorbed into. There is, according to reports, the game mode that is temporary, dubbed "leagues" which has a slightly increased XP rate however, it's too low for my taste and doesn't even exist right now, I think it will only last for a couple of months before it disappears for the after the "season".
