Gasoline is a colourless petroleum-derived flammable liquid, which is widely used as a fuel in most spark-ignited internal combustion engines. It is made up of organic compounds derived by the fractional distillation of petroleum, enhanced with a variety of additives. Other chemicals are also added frequently into gasoline to boost the chemical stability and performance. Doing so also controls corrosiveness and provides fuel system cleaning. Gasoline, thus, may comprise of oxygen-containing chemicals such as ethanol, MTBE, or ETBE to improve combustion.
