Hiking at night is dangerous. Many stay away from it due to the fear they will not be able to see if something, or someone, is coming at them. There is a certain skill level individual who decides to undergo hiking at night should have. This is because hiking in general is demanding. Hiking at night is different than during the day, even if you are using the same trail. This is where hiking a glow in the dark trail that helps illuminate the path can come in handy. Regardless, a lit trail is safer than a dark one. No matter where you decide to hike; here are some key things to keep in mind to help you when you are hiking.
Know the Trail
When you first begin venturing from day hikes to night hikes you must stick to a path you know. Beginning a new path for the first time at night if you have never hiked it before can become complicated. It is better when you know the trail so that you can remain oriented to where you are and where you are going. Not only will having hiked the trail before reducing your stress about it; but it can greatly help with navigation at night.
Start Easy
If you do not have a lot of experience, or honestly even if you do but your still new to hiking at night, you should choose an easier trail to hike at night. Try to find an easier trail that is not very long to hike. You also want to keep an eye on the elevation level. You want to make sure that the climb doesn’t have too much elevation. Avoid areas with rugged terrain and avoid going through a canyon unless you know the place well. Easier trails provide you with an increased chance of seeing the scenery and wildlife around you because you don’t have to pay as much attention to the path. You also have to remember to keep in mind the type of animals in the area. You do not want to run into an animal that can harm you, like a bear, while hiking at night.

It is also important to know what you are getting into when you go hiking. This means to do some research and check the conditions before time to hike. Don’t forget that safety is the most important thing to look at. Certain paths are never a good option to hike at night due to weather, terrain, or even the wildlife involved. Never underestimate the surrounding area and consider that when researching.
