After playing RuneScape, I'm said 2 inches from the monitor. I sit craning my neck to see what is going on when I am reading chat or have OSRS gold quest. It's damn annoying to say the least, and with more and I don't play with. And while we're here, I find the font they use to be difficult to read. Is this just me? I'd really like to find some customization options - even if it were in chat and when talking to NPC's. It is actually not a glamorous job for any developer but I would definitely appreciate it.
Very good discussion. I absolutely agree the tick speed is beginning to show its age, although The majority of these does not bother me too much because a more casual player the previous 15 decades. I think that it's a fantastic concept, but I think we need to begin looking to things we create tick speeds that are better for or can take off of this tick system. Equipment and movement swapping for example shouldn't be bound to ticks as consumables and abilities. It makes more sense of the later because the battle itself is dependent on the tick system and it prevents people from having the ability to obsessively eat to get out of bad circumstances.
Other things are abilities like farming. It's really annoying how erroneous expansion cycles are just because they go on a much longer global tick system. If other systems like vents can be simply throw'em out and come back later with a simple timercan't abilities? In addition, I think it's ridiculous that most potions are not on a timer such as overloads are but rather drop based on a tick. It's extremely annoying when I use a dose of a potion to reach the exact amount I need and then my stat drops since I chose a tick that is terrible to consume it.
I suppose that my point being that I believe ticks should still be around, and they do not will need to be quicker (the global cooldown on abilities is much faster compared to FF14 for example, although that game has lots of off-cooldown abilities you can use immediately.) But RuneScape game has tons of different tick rates happening at the exact same time, so why don't uniform them remove a number of these entirely?
One thing about server capacity problems, they are likely because of overpopulating hardware servers. They are currently trying to buy RS gold to much on their servers at a time that is specified. It is far more affordable for any data intensive company to spin servers up instead then using a physical hardware host for every single world. Servers is common as companies try to gain more customers without increasing 17, over doing. Option? To have more servers each running servers that are virtual that are fewer. This would have to get done before tick changes or other changes to RuneScape game that might require more server attention.
